Finally, it's here!

Everything you've always wanted to ask, but knew no one would answer. This excellent booklet from the folks at Impact brings to you the information used by Check Airmen and Standards Captains. Every pilot should have this information prior to facing the interview or arriving for the annual PC/PT. (Please be advised that this study guide is about the "Check Ride" and "Low Visibility Approaches" and is not aircraft specific, using the Boeing 737-300 as a model.)

Information is divided into four sections:

  • Part One: Gives an overview of the goals of airline training, including the philosophy behind the training, the differences between proficiency training and checking, and a description of applicable standards and factors which enter into the pass/fail decision.
  • Part Two: A review of selected normal and abnormal procedures and checklists. It focuses on the malfunctions which are commonly misinterpreted or mishandled, with explanatory notes about how to recognize the malfunction and why certain actions are taken in the abnormal checklist.
  • Part Three: Looks at the "Big Picture" of management of the aircraft (flying) and of the crew (C/L/R - Command / Leadership / Resource Management). It includes discussion of methods for developing and maintaining your skills, and offers suggestions for preparing for your next checkride or training event.
  • Part Four: Contains an important review of information about Low Visibility Operating procedures. We help de-mystify those CAT II and CAT III approaches into the unknown.

Everyone suffers symptoms of "simcheckitis". This Study Guide is designed to help reduce the stress and point you in the right direction. As they say, "Knowledge is Power!"

Remember, this study guide is about "check ride philosophy", not about a specific aircraft.  The aircraft model used is the B737-300.
