If you like touching history, then this tour is for you.
Almost every pilot has at the very least, heard of the famous
Flying Tigers - the intrepid airmen who
helped defend China against the Japanese invasion. Till today, the Chinese
refer to them as "our beloved Flying Tigers".
After the war the Flying Tiger freight
carrier was a direct spin-off of these brave men.
A close friend, Capt Larry Jobe (UAL retired) and his lovely wife Nina,
decided to make certain these heroes were not forgotten. So they have set
up a tour company, Travel Aire Tours,
that take groups annually over to China to tour the sites made famous by these
airmen. This tour is one on steroids! (NO! we don't
get a commission for tell you about this opportunity, sorry!)
IF having real Flying Tigers escorting you on your tour; VIP
police escorts; meeting with Provincial governors; a visit to General
Chennault's cave headquarters and other historic sites; hearing first hand
stories of rescues by Chinese men and boys of our airmen; visiting the Beijing
Air Museum and sitting on Chairman Mao's personal aircraft; an over 800 km
cruise up the Yangtze on a beautiful cruiser and more, then this tour is a
must for every airman who loves aviation history.
But folks, these tours will not go on long. Those airmen are now
in their late 80's and early 90's. This DVD is the story of just one tour
I was able to participate in this year, 2005.
And IF you would like a GREAT READ, go to
General 'Tex' Hill's web site
and get an autographed copy of his book, Flying
Tiger. It will provide fantastic perspective before you go
on your tour.
ENJOY!
